Turn iPhone photos into JPG or PNG files that open on any computer or website. Convert one photo or hundreds at once. Your photos are converted on this device and never uploaded.

Drop HEIC photos here

You can also paste images with Ctrl+V. Works with HEIC and HEIF photos from iPhone, iPad and other cameras.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Drop your HEIC photos on the page, or choose them from your device. You can pick many at once.
  2. Choose JPG or PNG. For JPG, the quality slider trades file size against detail.
  3. Download each photo, or download them all in one zip file.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It stores a photo in about half the space of a JPG, but Windows, many websites and older apps cannot open it. Converting to JPG gives you a file that works everywhere.

Questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your browser converts the photos on this device, and they are never sent to Nookbyte or anyone else. The only thing the page downloads is the decoder it needs to read HEIC files, and Safari does not even need that.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you convert.

Will the photos look the same?

Yes. At the default quality of 90 a JPG looks the same as the original to most eyes, and the size in pixels stays the same. Choose PNG if you want no compression loss at all. Recent iPhones record a wider range of colours called Display P3, and the converted file keeps that colour information, or turns it into standard colours, so the colours stay true.

Will my photos be the right way up?

Yes. An iPhone stores how it was held when you took the photo, and the converter turns the picture upright before it saves it.

Does the JPG keep the location and date of my photo?

No. The converted file is a new image, so the location, the date taken, the camera model and the other details stored in the original are left out. That makes the files safer to share. If you need the date, keep the original HEIC files too.

What about Live Photos and burst photos?

A Live Photo is saved as a HEIC photo plus a short video, and this tool converts the photo. Some HEIC files hold more than one image, such as a burst or a collection. The tool converts the main image and tells you when a file holds more.

How do I stop my iPhone saving HEIC photos?

On the iPhone, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG. Photos you already took stay HEIC, and this tool converts them.

Which browsers does it work in?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers and phones. Safari can read HEIC by itself. Other browsers download a free HEIC decoder the first time you convert a photo.

In browsers other than Safari, HEIC photos are read with libheif and libde265, free software under the LGPL-3.0 licence. Licence and source.
